Temptations
In addition to the withdrawal symptoms, there are also some cravings and temptations which usually tend to deviate the smokers from their cessation routine. Therefore, it is important to be prepared with some strategies in case such situations arise.
| • | Other people smoking - It is better to sit in the places where others are non smokers. Sit in non smoking areas in restaurants and ask your friends not to offer you any cigarettes. |
| • | Coffee - You should avoid coffee and other caffeine beverages. Try to have some water or fruit juice instead. You can also try for decaffeinated coffee if quitting is making you feel quite nervous. |
| • | After meals - Get up from the table as soon as the meal is finished and try talking to a friend as this will divert your mind. |
| • | Stress - Try to identify the sources of stress, eliminate them and change the way you react to them. It is advisable to practice relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and deep breathing. |
| • | Urge to Smoke - The urge to smoke is usually for a few minutes. Divert your mind by trying to solve puzzles, eat something or even watch television. |
